We’re here to help you achieve a healthy fit that’s right for you and your body. Our talented team of coaches work across age groups and fitness levels from teens through to retirees; beginners through to athletes, to identify your fitness goals and help you reach them. When you join Hive Active you don’t just join a gym, you join a community; a team of fitness coaches in Roseville, personal trainers, and members that support you in your quest for a healthy, active lifestyle.

Hive Active’s team of coaches are pretty awesome (even if we do say so ourselves). Each team member brings their own wealth of experience and personality to the gym, and draws on these to educate, support and encourage you to reach your health and fitness potential. Once you’re there we’ll help you maintain that level, and move on to achieve your next fitness goal.

Our health and fitness coaches are also supported by our operations crew (who also happen to be health and fitness practitioners). Our operations team helps around the gym and behind the scenes with all those little and not so little things that help to make working out at Hive Active a safe, happy and fun experience.

A Hive of Team and Community Spirit

Finding that little bit of extra energy and mental conviction to push yourself to be fitter, faster, stronger, and healthier can sometimes seem almost too hard. The great thing about Hive Active is that you not only have the support and encouragement from our fitness professionals, but our members are also super supportive too. As your fellow teammates, our members will encourage, support and push you (for those competitive guys and gals amongst us) to go that little bit further each and everyday. Our team is also there to support you when you’re just having one of those days and you’re doing well just to get to the gym (we’ve all been there).

A Hive of Activity

Hive Active offers a range of fitness and recovery options to entice and challenge you. These include:

  • CrossFit
  • Teens fitness
  • Specialty Strength, Conditioning, and skill sessions
  • Recovery equipment
  • Remedial massage

We also participate in a number of inter-gym CrossFit challenges, and put together teams to participate in other non-gym sporting events such as Spartan Races. And because we’re a social bunch, we often get together for fun that doesn’t involve sweat and muscle burn; BBQs, the occasional lawn bowls afternoon and catch up nights often pop up in our social calendar.

Metabolic conditioning, strength and gymnastic equipment: Concept 2 rowers, ski ergs and bikes, Rig, Gymnastic rings, Squat racks, 8kg, 10kg, 15kg and 20kg Barbells, dumbbells, kettle bells, wall balls, bumper plates peg board,  sleds + track, sandbags and more.

Recovery equipment: myofascial rollers and balls, massage percussion guns, air compression recovery massage boots and shorts, electro stimulation therapy, PEMF and infrared equipment.

Meet The Hive Active Team

Craig Preston

Programmer
Born and raised in sunny Australia, Craig is a true lover of all things outdoors, training and coaching. Growing up Craig used sports to boost his confidence and grew into an accomplished functional fitness competitor. His dedication to performance training earned him two consecutive years of competing at the Reebok CrossFit Games Pacific Regional competition.
It was this experience as a competitor that paved the way for Craig to realise his passion for preparing other athletes as they navigate their competition journey. Whilst still a very keen and capable athlete himself, Craig’s focus is now helping others achieve their goals.
Additionally, Craig is a magician with movement progression programming for the more technical exercises. So, if you’re someone who’s looking to get your first [insert movement here], Craig’s undoubtedly the guy to get you there methodically and safely.

Bethany Ng

Exercise Scientist, Personal Trainer, CrossFit L1 Trainer
Small in stature but mighty in power, Beth has a wealth of sporting and exercise knowledge and experience. As a qualified Exercise Scientist and experienced Personal Trainer who is pursuing a Masters in High Performance Sport, Beth draws on her background in athletics and other sports to bring energy and intensity to her coaching and personal training. Whether you’re starting out in your fitness journey or looking for your next big PB, it’s great to have Beth in your corner; supporting, motivating and challenging you to be your absolute best.

Merryn Sheriff

Remedial Massage Therapist, CrossFit L2 Trainer, Recovery Manager
Merryn has been a remedial massage therapist for over 10 years, and is also an accredited CrossFit Level 1 and CrossFit Kids Trainer. Having played sport most of her life (and incurring her fair share of injuries), as well as experiencing postural issues from desk work, repetitive activities, and caring for kids (it’s hard work on the bod!), Merryn understands the impact our hectic lifestyles have on us, and sees massage as a means to give back to our bodies; balancing out the demands that work, sport, study, family and life in general place on it.
When working out herself or coaching others, Merryn draws on her remedial massage background to ensure good functional form and muscular health.
As Hive Active’s Recovery Manager, Merryn is your go-to person for any recovery tech equipment and services support.

Kate Ballantyne

CrossFit L1 Trainer, Wellness Coach & Personal Trainer
Helping people unlock their full wellness potential is the aspect Kate loves most about being a Coach and personal trainer. Kate takes a wholistic approach to training, which involves eating nourishing, real food (most of the time) and engaging in functional exercise. As a Coach, Kate likes the unpredictability and variety of WODs, as well as sharing in the sense of community that is an integral part of Hive Active. If you’re looking for real food recipe inspirational and need to borrow a recipe book – Kate is your “go to” resource.

Inshan Sheriff

CrossFit L2 Trainer, Training Manager
As a die-hard sports fan, Inshan caught the CrossFit bug 8+ years ago, and loved it so much he took over Hive Active in 2016. Inshan’s mission is to bring together our local community and the best of fitness professionals and coaches to create a training environment built on community spirit and love of quality fitness. With this in mind, while you might find Inshan coaching the occasional class, you’ll more than likely find him working behind the scenes to ensure the hum in the Hive is a hearty thrum.

Luke Hewitt

CrossFit Level 1 Trainer
A health and fitness fanatic since the age of 18, and current Dad of 2, Luke became hooked on CrossFit after watching a documentary back in 2010 called “Every Second Counts”. As a qualified CrossFit Level 1 Trainer, Luke’s coaching style draws on not just his certifications but also personal growth and experience gained under the direction of sporting and CrossFit coaches, as well as gym owners. Luke loves seeing people achieve their goals; whether it be losing weight, making a heavy lift or learning a new skill.

Jess Green

CrossFit L1 Trainer, Gymnastics Coach, Physiotherapist
Coming from a background of 10 years of competitive gymnastics, taking human movement to the next level has always been a passion for Jess. When she discovered CrossFit at Hive Active in early 2019, she was instantly drawn to the challenge, variety and community- particularly how inclusive the program is for all kinds of people, from non-exercisers beginning their fitness journey to ex-elite athletes. Jess draws on her experiences in coaching baby gymnastics to competitive gymnastics squads, Physiotherapy, and volunteering at her church working with a variety of young people to help Hive Active members young and old thrive on better fitness. She is excited to share her knowledge and passions with the Hive community!

Ella Anderson

CrossFit Level 1 Trainer
Coming from a sporty family, Ella has been in and around sport and an active lifestyle her whole life. She developed a passion for health and hard work early; competing in swimming for approximately 8 years. At the age of 16, Ella discovered CrossFit and has never looked back. Having caught the itch, Ella began competing in local competitions and now has aspirations of competing at Regionals for Oceania. Ella loves how the community, competitive aspect, and challenges placed on people make CrossFit like no other sport.  As a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer and current Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science student at UTS, Ella loves coaching all aspects of CrossFit and has a strong desire to help people push themselves to a level they never thought possible. She has been coached in strength and conditioning, Olympic weightlifting and goal setting; enabling her to help others push themselves further than ever. As an athlete Ella loves any WOD with a heavy barbell and  dumbbells!
